FMP- Exploring

Here I've been exploring experimenting and challenging the properties of the material that I'm experimenting with. I've tried to explore and create a range of different facades using different materials.

Different perspectives of trying to create a space using paper cupcakes, and also this is inspired by dance costume  tutu.

I've used a toilet roll, I've played around with slitting and trying to create different levels.

Close-up photographs of inside my location

I got the chance to go and explore my site closer because the gates we're open to my site. This gave me a better understand and insight on the size of my location, there's also a benefit of a park being close by my location because on my project proposal I stated that I would also want to design a terrace or an out door area within my theatre and dance studio spaces.

FMP- Site

This week I looked into Japanese theatre and I was particularly fascinated by the folds and patterns on the costume and then looked into turning them to a building by covering the image with acetate paper as a surface to draw on and focusing on the facade and the outline of the design, I liked using the monochrome photograph and then drawing on top of that because I think that it doesn't distract the viewers attention from the main costume and this then allowed me to make-up my own colour scheme first starting with black and white.

The triangular shapes on the costume made me look into paper folding and then I looked into some origami video tutorials and books to make my own paper models. I looked at using coloured paper, I placed a 1:250 scale figure to show the whole scale of the building that I created.

Potential site one:

Potential site two:

I then looked at some potential sites that I could build my theatre inside in, I then came up with two sites that I could potentially place my theatre in while looking at the sites I considered the amount of spaces that they both have, and finally I've decided to look into site number one because its got more space and also its also got a park right next to it and in my project proposal I've stated that I'll also include a multipurpose space so I'm planing on joining the park as a part of the theatre so that it would invite people to use the theatre along with the park as well. I decided to looked into a site area that was already under development, there will be new apartments being constructed near my theatre which will persuade the potential buyers of the apartments to buy the place because there will be a place for interaction with the park area, watching stage performances.

These are my group crit bullet points that I look after my project discussion. After this I went and looked at my site close-up and took photographs using a DSLR camera (Canon 600D) that I borrowed from CLR ( central learning resources). I have also sketched and experimented with the Japanese theatre costumes.

Week brainstorm

To try and keep on track I made a timetable/ action plan showing what I've done and need to do. I found this helpful as it gave me an idea of where I'am with my project and what needs to done referencing back to my project proposal I've visited exhibitions that I believe are relevant to my project. at this stage what I need to do more is experiment with origami/ paper folding using different mediums such as coloured paper, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles and so on.
