Exhibition Visits- Day 2

Victoria and Albert Museum
Illustration Awards 2013

The Roman Column

Baroque Pipe Organ And Ferrari 360 Engine

While waiting to see the “Memory Palace” exhibition I looked into other art work in display at the V & A. I really enjoyed looking at the “illustrations awards” art especially these drawings of the hand craftsmanship. Think that the choice of mediums (charcoal, pencil, tracing paper) help sketch out the detail of the objects. The challenging part of the whole day was definitely trying to find the rooms in the whole museum, as they were far apart from each other and the museum itself was very big as well.

Making It Up- Photographic Fictions

OUTBURST!

What I like about this photograph itself is how busy the photo is with objects and emotion, props such as over stacked objects are used to also convey this once again to us the audience. The rule of thirds intersecting to center of the image as being the man in pink shirt, using his body language to show the height of emotional outburst, which then allows the audience to finish off the story in their minds.

Silence in the changing room

This photograph is actually a constructed set, which I think is setting a relaxing atmosphere with use of yellow as if its sunset. I like the focus point of the composition being the lines.
Couch

Quick rough sketch "Hannah Strakey, Untitled- May 1997 (couch) photograph using the medium of pencil, I like the contrasting bright colours of the objects in the photograph itself, which allows your eyes to wonder around the image.

Building Memories- The Art Of Remembering

Building stories

The 14 variable parts that can be read in any order, the visually experimental pages reveal the memories of four people and the building they inhabit. the lines and flat colours evoke the smell and feel of emotions experienced at home, I especially like the Pop Art look of the boxed letter 'B' and also how the cover box seems like its a game box

Memory Palace-
If you could keep one memory, what would it be?

I was really fascinated by the whole exhibition because every different area presents a different form of art work that is different than the other attracting attention. I especially like the texts on the walls, which as you read one of them you want to read the rest and I found some of the text challenging to the human mind and trying to understand the context to it. The art works we're also all amazing and some surreal. Hari Kunzru's exhibition theme is set in a future London where you feel as if your walking though his book/imagination and actually experiencing the story itself with a broad wide range of artwork from varied fields such as from comics, illustrations, typography to advertising.
